Use Nursing to Lose Belly Fat After Pregnancy

Choosing to nurse if you can has a long, long list of benefits for your baby and YOU. All the other benefits aside, you can lose belly fat after pregnancy by nursing alone. I did. I did begin to incorporate more tools as time went on, but I lost around 30 pounds very fast just by nursing alone. To lose belly fat after pregnancy can seem impossible. Doesn't it seem like it sometimes or MOST times? For me it seemed impossible, but I used nursing as a tool to help me lose belly fat! Read on to see how you can too!

Nursing not only provides the perfect nutrients for your growing baby, it also burns MEGA calories. Depending on your body, it can burn anywhere from 200-800 calories EXTRA per day. I know that's a huge range, but it really does depend on your individual body and metabolism.

Here's what I did to make nursing work for me to lose belly fat after my pregnancy with my son:

1. Nursed AND Pumped to make extra milk to save for future use

When I was pregnant, I read that some women stopped producing milk after their baby was born. When I had my son, Asher, I made it a point to nurse and pump so I could have enough saved just in case I stopped producing milk. After a month, a had lost 30 pounds. I had gestational diabetes and I gained 50 pounds from my healthy weight pre-pregnancy.

2. Took the herb, Fenugreek, to help boost my milk production

This helped go from producing approximately 37oz./day to 47oz/day. I started losing major belly fat with this boost.

3. Nursed and pumped for 8 months, although 12 months is ideal

My body stopped producing milk around 8 months after pregnancy. I had enough saved to minimize the amount of formula I would have to use. My son drinks formula now and doing just fine with it.

In the end, this is what nursing did for me- My son got the best nutrition for him, I lost 30 pounds in the first month (I realize this is unrealistic for some), I continued to lose belly fat rapidly while nursing and pumping.

With nursing, exercising, eating right and visualization, I'm so close to having the toned belly I've always new was in there! My husband has repeatedly said that my belly looks toned, that means a lot that he notices the positive change. I can HONESTLY say I am in the BEST shape of my life right now. It feels so good to say that!
